Terrorists Kidnap 2 Political Party Chieftains, Other Commuters, On Zamfara Highway
The operation lasted for about eight hours on a federal highway in Zamfara, Northwest Nigeria.
Terrorists have kidnapped Nasiru Yari and Bashar Lawal Anka, both All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains, among many other commuters on Friday, 1 April, 2022 on Anka-Zuru federal highway in Zamfara, Northwest Nigeria.
Yari was, however, released a few hours later after a ransom payment of N1.2 million to his abductors, money Kasimu Anka explained Yari was carrying to Gusau for his business.
Kasimu, a relative to Yari who is APC chairman of Anka, Local Government Area (LGA), and Lawal, APC chairman of Magaji Ward of the LGA were together when the attack took place. Another person abducted was a resident Kasimu knows as Husaini Musa Barade.
The gang operated from about 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. WAT unhindered, HumAngle gathered. They blocked the road with over 500 rustled cattle, rams, hosts, and ewes at Dajin Daki Takwas, Anka (LGA) of the state.
Kasimu pointed out that “the terrorists had been on the road for over eight hours at Tsamiyar Gezoji, blocking road users from passing by.”
The highway that links Anka to Gummi and Zuru Emirates of Kebbi State is one of the busiest routes for commuters, especially on Fridays. Local traders depend on it to attend Anka and Gummi weekly market days.
Ibrahim Polo, 45, a commercial driver who regularly drives from Gummi to Gusau through Anka, lamented about how he took six passengers from Gummi to Gusau.
“On reaching Anka, we saw over 100 fellow drivers parked at DakiTakwas village in an abrupt parking position. This is because the terrorists returned to the road to catch us,” he explained.
Another driver, Isiya, who drove from Nasarawa-Burkullu said he had no other option than to turn back with his passengers.
