PHIMA Intercepts Cartons Of Fake Medical Consumables, Arrests Suspect
Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has intercepted cartons of suspected fake medical consumables.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Usman Tijjani Aliyu, made this known while displaying some of the items confiscated in Kano on Monday.
He said the items consisted of Eusol solution, Gential violet and tincture of iodine meant to be transported to Gombe State.
Aliyu said the items were labeled as having been manufactured in Anambra State but evidence strongly suggested that they were produced in Kano.
‘’The suspect was operating in Sabo Geri quarters, Fagge Local Government Area and would pack the products without NAFDAC registration number nor that of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria for onward transportation to Gombe and other parts of the Northeast,’’ the secretary said
‘’So based on information made available to us, we were able to put up our surveillance and that was how we arrested him with the suspected fake drugs on Monday,” he said.
He explained that the interception of the items was made possible with the collaboration of the state Primary Health Care Management Board (PHCMB).
Aliyu said that the items had been handed over to the State Taskforce on Fake, Counterfeit and Unwholesome Products of the Ministry of Health for further investigations and action.
