Terrorists Kill 8 In Niger Republic

Eight people, including six aid workers, were killed in a giraffe reserve located at Koure about 65 km from Niger Republic’s capital, Niamey on Sunday.

HumAngle gathered that the other two victims were Nigeriens.

Koure is home to Africa’s Last Wild Giraffe Herds known for their distinct light-coloured spots.

The governor of the restive Tillaberi region, Tidjani Ibrahim Katiella, told Reuters that “they were intercepted and killed.”

The six worked for an international aid group, Niger’s Defence Minister Issoufou Katambé said.

French President Emmanuel Macron’s office also confirmed the killing of the French citizens in Niger.

It said Macron spoke on the phone with Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou.

In June, 10 humanitarian aid workers, distributing food aid, were kidnapped in Niger’s southwestern Tillaberi region near the border with Burkina Faso.

Niger republic faces worsening insecurity and humanitarian crisis due to the spillover of violence in neighbouring Burkina Faso, Libya, Mali and Nigeria.

The country is also host to western counterterrorism efforts against jihadists groups in the Sahel.
