Russian Mercenaries Allegedly Kill 17 Persons In Central African Republic
Parents to one of the victims said their son, a gold trader, was killed and subsequently robbed by the Russian mercenaries.
At least 17 people were killed by Russian mercenaries of the Wagner Security Group in Pande village, 30km to the west of Lamy-Pont, near the Cameroon border in Central African Republic.
The killings took place on Wednesday, Jan. 5, local sources told HumAngle.
The sources said the Russian mercenaries had suspected the presence of rebels of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) in the area and at 6 a.m. CAT, they opened fire on every moving object as some people prepared to go to work.
“Anybody they met on their way, including those going to sell their goods and those going to work was systematically gunned down by the Russians,” a local civil society source revealed.
“For now, we have counted 17 dead bodies with several other persons wounded. Those wounded have been evacuated to Lamy-Pont while others have been taken to Baboua and Abba.”
The parents of one victim revealed that their son was killed by the Russians, his body searched and all the money on him stolen.
“He was a gold trader and they took away his money and some gold they found on him. We can now conveniently talk of genocide programmed by these Wagner Security people with the complicity of the regime in Bangui,” one of the parents declared on condition of anonymity.
