Over 400 Women’s Rights Organisations Declare Support For New Chadian Junta

The organisations believe, despite opposition from other organisations, that Mahamat Idriss Deby and the TMC should rule Chad.

Over 400 women’s rights organisations in Chad have expressed their support for the TMC Transitional Military Council (TMC) headed by Mahamat Idriss Deby, the son of former president, Idriss Deby Itno.

In a motion signed on Wednesday, April 28, and made public in N’Djamena on Thursday, 423 women organisations expressed their support for the TMC.

The members of these organisations say they are “profoundly touched” by the death of Idriss Deby Itno adding that their stand is dictated by the terrorist threat and armed incursions menacing national cohesion, peaceful cohabitation, and territorial integrity of the country.

Other aspects that informed their decision to support the TMC include multiple efforts deployed by the late president towards the emancipation of women.

They also noted the heavy sacrifices made by Chadians towards the maintenance of peace, the fight against terrorism, management of health and economic crises post-COVID-19.

According to the groups, the major advances obtained during the late president’s mandates in favour of women and the adoption and ratification of national and international laws in favour of women were noteworthy.

The women expressed their disapprobation of all forms of violence and reiterated that attachment to the integrity of Chad’s national territory and took note of the putting in place of the TMC.
