Boko Haram Storm Borno Capital, Kill Dozens Before Retreating

The Nigerian Military is responding to a security incident in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria, after insurgents breached the city and fired multiple rockets, killing dozens.

The security breach happened in the Kaleri area, close to the University of Maiduguri, on Tuesday evening.

Residents close to the location of the explosions and gunfire are fleeing to safety.

HumAngle understands that the insurgents fired multiple rockets randomly within the city centre, killing at least 15 persons and injuring dozens across several locations.

HumAngle has learned that the insurgents have retreated behind the federal university after the incursion through a location known as London Sudan.

This is the first attack of its kind in years, whereby insurgents came directly into the city during the day to wreak havoc. There have been several attempts in the past, but those attacks ended at the city’s outskirts.

Nigeria’s military is battling Boko Haram, and it’s splinter faction Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), in Northeast and Lake Chad Basin.
