10 Year-Old Girl Drowns In Open Well In Kano

Binta Shehu, a 10-year-old girl, died on Wednesday after falling into an open well in Yanka Tsaro, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State, Northwest Nigeria, an emergency service worker said.

Binta had gone to fetch water from the well in the night but fell in and died, HumAngle learnt.

Me Saidu Ibrahim, the spokesperson for Kano State Fire Service,  confirmed the incident. He said on Wednesday at about 2:30 pm community members called the emergency line of the service about the development.

“On our arrival, we met the little girl unconscious, and later confirmed dead;  the corpse has been discharged to the village head, Junaidu Alasan, on behalf of the family,” Saidu said.

He advised households to protect their well by placing protective covers on them and refrain from sending little children to an open well.
