Terrorists Kill Two Persons, Injure Soldier In Dambo, Northwest Nigeria
Dambo community in Zamfara state, Northwest Nigeria, came under attack by over 200 terrorists.
Two persons were killed, while a soldier and three other persons were injured by a group of terrorists that raided communities in Zamfara, Northwest Nigeria.
Sources told HumAngle that the terrorists, numbering more than 200, arrived at Dambo community in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State around 3 p.m. WAT on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 and operated till 5 p.m.
“The terrorists stormed our village and began ransacking our shops, kiosks and canteens.
They carted away people’s properties from shops. They simultaneously started shooting in the air chanting ‘Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,” the source revealed.
“In fact, we sighted their Hilux vehicles and more than 100 powerful motorcycles rallying around the Dambo environs, searching for our animals to rustle,” said Muhammadu Dambo, 52, a resident of the village who witnessed the attack.
According to Dambo,”the Terrorists rustled cattles and other animals belonging to the residents.”
Other sources said troops of the Nigerian Army came shortly after the attack to ward off the terrorists but did not meet them in the village. They said the troops sighted the terrorists moving to cross the river that linked Dambo to Bakura.
“The soldiers therefore followed the terrorists to the outskirts of the village and exchanged fire with them. One soldier sustained injury as a result of the gunshot targeted at him. Also, in the process, three other civilians passing by were also injured by the terrorists leaving two dead,” a source who declined to identify himself for security reasons said.
Dambo village was the only area in Bakura Local Government that had not been attacked before by terrorists. According to a villager who gave his name as Ummaru, the village could not be attacked owing to the selfless service and commitments of the vigilante group of the village in securing and safeguarding the area.
Another source, Mamman Amadu, a member of the vigilante group, said the terrorist group took advantage of their absence from the Dambo village while away to Talata-Mafara market day.
He said “the village was blessed with numerous herds of cattle that had been untouchable to the so called bandits.”
The attack occurred on the day Boss Mustapha, Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation led a delegation to Zamfara State to welcome Bello Mattawale, Governor of the state into the All Progressives People Congress (APC), from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
A source who identified himself as Hamza disclosed that “an almost similar group of the terrorists invaded Sabon Garin Bakura on Monday, June 28, 2021, at about 8 p.m., where they kidnapped four persons from three neighbouring houses located opposite Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Bakura.”
