Terrorists attacked Randa village in Northwest Nigeria’s Zamfara following the withdrawal of security personnel from the area.
Terrorists continued their raid of communities in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria on Wednesday, Aug. 18, killing 11 persons during an attack on Randa community in Dansadau Emirate under Maru Local Government Area in the state.
During the attack that took place for just an hour between 6 and 7 p.m. WAT, over 40 persons including women and children were abducted by the terrorists
A source told BBC Hausa Service that the heavily armed terrorists invaded Randa village following the withdrawal of security personnel attached to the area.
Mushafau Ibrahim, a resident, told HumAngle that “the local vigilante confronted the terrorists, leading to an exchange of fire to defend their community, but the terrorists overpowered them. The terrorists killed 11 persons, eight of which were burnt inside a room and abducted over 40 persons, mostly women and children.”
Alu Isah Maizare, another resident who escaped the attack said the terrorists came on a large number of motorbikes. HumAngle learnt that the terrorists had sent a notice to the community, informing them of their intention to attack them.
Muhammad Shehu, Zamfara State Police spokesperson confirmed the incident when contacted by HumAngle. Shehu said the police did not get the information of the attack early enough, blaming poor communication networks.
He, however, disclosed that the state police command had deployed an adequate number of tactical police personnel to fish out the criminals and rescue the kidnapped persons.
