Southeast Governor Says Police Should Defend Themselves Against Separatist Group
Imo State Governor, Southeast Nigeria, asked police to defend themselves against attacks from IPOB members by making use of their rifles.
Hope Uzodimma, the Imo state Governor, Southeast Nigeria, has urged Police in the state to defend themselves against members of the separatist group, Indegenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).
The governor said this on Tuesday, April 6, when he visited the Imo State Police Command Headquarters with the now-former Nigeria Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
Uzodimma, while speaking, told the Police to ensure that they protect themselves against members of the separatist groups, using their rifles when necessary.
“If you can’t attack them, you can at least use your rifles to defend yourselves,” he said.
“Any attack on police formation is an insult to us as a government. It is also an attack on the integrity of the government. We must take charge, take control and ensure discipline,” he added.
The Imo State Police Command Headquarters had on Monday morning come under attack by assailants whom the police identified as members of the proscribed, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The assailants had equally attacked the correctional facility in Imo state, freeing about 1,884 inmates.
