Nigerian Troops Push Back Insurgents Raid In Borno Capital

Insurgents launched a night-time attack in Maiduguri, raising fears over the safety of the capital city that is besieged by Boko Haram factions.

Nigerian counter-insurgency troops responded to a daring incursion Tuesday night by insurgents in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.

The attack comes weeks after the boldest and deadliest attack on Maiduguri by Boko Haram, when a terrorist squad breached a section of the security around the city and fired volleys of mortars and fabricated rockets which led to the death of at least 15 persons.

HumAngle learnt that residents on Tuesday night could hear gunfire sounds and explosions.

The attack in Maiduguri was reported to have occurred around the same vicinity of the Tuesday, Feb. 23  security breach and infiltration.

HumAngle understands that the military deployed troops to the area in response to the security incident.

The impact of the attack is unclear as of the time of filing this report.

On March 5, HumAngle reported that the  Boko Haram factions have adopted tactics to extend their terror campaigns to the densely populated city of Maiduguri.
