New Roadmap For Peace In Northern Mali Adopted
The search for lasting peace between the Malian government and armed groups continues despite increasing jihadist attacks in the north and centre of the country.
Following this, a four-day workshop was opened in Bamako, the national capital on Tuesday, under the auspices of the new Malian authorities.
The objective of the exchanges is to elaborate a new roadmap and a time table of priority actions on the road to peace.
Fahad Ag Almahmoud, the president of the platform, says through this dialogue, the armed groups, which are signatories to the Alger Accord are henceforth censors of government action.
“I hope that everybody is of goodwill because there is a new platform wherein all the movements are engaged in the government,” Fahad Ag Almahmoud revealed, adding that all the parties to the Accord should work in synergy to facilitate the putting in place the Accord for peace to return to the country.
This call seems to have received the support of the Coordinator of Azawad Movements, whose spokesperson, Attaye Ag Mohamed, gave assurances that would lead to the definitive return of peace in Mali.
“We will put every effort possible to ensure that the initiatives that would be undertaken by the government would be consensual and accepted by all. It is necessary for everybody to be answerable to the Accord,” the Azawad spokesperson declared.
He said his group would take its stand on all the questions that would be submitted within the context of the process because “without our position, we do not exist. Our position will always be there but the wish is that we be within the community,” he added.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Attaher Iknane, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of National Reconciliation, reassured that no party would be excluded from the putting in place of the Alger Accord.
