ISWAP Kills Soldiers In Northern Borno Deadly Ambush

ISWAP insurgents ambushed a Nigerian military convoy between Gajiram and Monguno on Wednesday.

A deadly ambush by insurgents on a Nigerian military convoy along the volatile Gajiram – Monguno road in Borno, Northeast Nigeria, has led to several deaths and injuries.

HumAngle understands the military has evacuated dead and wounded soldiers after the incident in an area between Gajiram and Monguno notorious for Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) ambushes on security forces and interception of vehicles.

Gajiram is along the road connecting the Borno State Capital, Maiduguri, and Monguno, a major humanitarian hub in northern Borno.

Both Gajiram, the headquarters of Nganzai Local Government Area (LGA) and Monguno the headquarters of the nearby Monguno LGA, are located in Northern Borno, an area where ISWAP poses a significant threat, including along routes between Garrison towns.

In August, Nigerian troops on patrol recovered weapons after an intense clash with insurgents in Ali Gambari village between Gajiram and Monguno.

Ambushes and improvised explosive device attacks against Nigerian troops usually involve squads taking advantage of terrain and the use of soft skins gun trucks by the Nigerian Military.
