ISWAP Continues Siege In Border Town Of Kanamma After Overrunning Military Base
Insurgents return to Kanamma, a border town in Yobe State, a few days after raiding a military base.
Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents on Wednesday moved into the desert town of Kanamma, Yobe State, near the border with Niger republic.
This is at least the fourth incursion by ISWAP terrorist group within days in Kanamma, the main town of Yunusari Local Government in northern Yobe, Northeast Nigeria.
Kanamma is where the predecessor to Boko Haram terrorist group known as the Nigerian Taliban, set up camp in the outskirts of the small town between the early and mid-2000s.
The current incursion is happening a few days after the overrunning of the military base, destruction of military equipment and telecommunications mast in the same town.
Residents of the town have fled to nearby communities and the Niger Republic.
Images released by ISWAP of the previous raid that led to the overrunning of the military base showed the destruction of the facility and insurgents with AK pattern rifles alongside heavy machine guns.
The images also included captured Nigerian Army equipment such as Otokar Cobra light armoured vehicle, ERC 90 Sagaie armoured vehicle, Steyr 4K-7FA Armoured Personnel carrier, and three gun trucks.
In recent weeks, ISWAP has launched attacks on military bases and Garrison towns in Yobe and Borno states.
