#EndSARS: Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Calls FG to Respect Human Rights, Urges Protesters to Change Tactics
The influential Islamic cleric in Northern Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to respect human rights and meet the demands of protesters.
Speaking to the BBC Hausa Service on Wednesday, October 21, Sheikh Bauchi said the government should listen to the advice of sincere Nigerians towards de-escalating the existing tensions.
“We are calling the government to respect the rights of citizens. The government should listen to the sincere advisers.
“Leaving the situation as it is going today will lead to a disastrous consequence. Government should respect and look into the demands of citizens.
“We are calling the protesters to stop the protest now. Riots will destroy everything and will lead to losing the little peace, we have today,” Sheikh Bauchi said.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi said the government is aware of the hardship, insecurity, and other social menace in the country. He said the government should respond to that immediately.
He however urged the protesters to change tactics, stop the protest, and negotiate demands so as not to destroy the little peace the country enjoys today.
