The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office with the Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has trained over 260 private hospitals, nursing homes and maternity homes on the implementation of the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is the UK aid agency formerly called Department for International Development (DFID).
The training under DFID-Lafiya Support for Health in Nigeria, Kano State Office, was aimed at providing basic primary care through the provision of Basic Minimum Package of Health Services
(BMPHS) at the primary and secondary levels of care for pregnant women and less privileged persons.
Other target beneficiaries of BMPHS are the disabled, persons aged 85 or above and the vulnerable, according to a statement by the spokesperson for PHIMA, Abba Dalha Soron Dinki.
The participants in the training appreciated the state government for complying with the Abuja Declaration of allocating at least 15 per cent of the budget to health.
They noted that Kano State had gone above the target by allocating more than 17 per cent to the sector in the 2021 budget.
The participants also expressed gratitude to the training organisers and promised to work to implement what they learnt toward achieving Universal Health Coverage in the state.
In his remark, Dr. Usman Tijjani Aliyu, the Executive Secretary of PHIMA, thanked the Kano State Government for working to achieve a good healthy environment.
Aliyu encouraged all private healthcare facility operators in Kano to utilise the new skills learnt to service their clients.
