#COVID19: 215,277 Nigerians Receive Vaccines Across 29 States And FCT- NPHCDA
Nigeria is making progress in the administration of COVID-19 vaccines across the states but seven states including Kogi, Abia, Oyo, Zamfara, Niger, and Taraba are yet to commence the administration of the vaccine.
Nigeria has vaccinated 215,277 Nigerians against the COVID-19 virus as of Tuesday, March 23, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has revealed.
HumAngle had previously reported that the Nigerian Government had taken delivery of 3.98 million Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines courtesy of the COVAX Initiative, earlier this month in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
NPHCDA had launched an e-registration website to enable all eligible Nigerians to register for the vaccine online.
Almost all states have begun administering the vaccine except for seven states namely; Abia, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Oyo, Taraba and Zamfara.
Lagos has administered the most doses, having been hit hardest by the virus with 57,370 cases and 426 fatalities as of March 23. So far, 58,461 vaccines have been administered in the state, followed by Jigawa (20,800), Bauchi (23,827) and Ogun (19,257) states.
In the FCT, only 8,616 vaccines have been given so far.
Concerns regarding the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine were raised after countries across the EU began suspending the vaccine rollout after reports of blood clots in those who had received doses of the vaccine.
But the agency (NPHCDA) had noted that the batch of vaccines received by Nigeria was not part of the batch which had shown side effects in Europe, and that so far, no reactions had been recorded in the country.
As of Tuesday, March 23, Nigeria has recorded 162,076 cases of COVID-19 and 2,031 deaths.
