Court Convicts 3 Rapists In Jigawa
Jigawa State Ministry of Justice has secured the conviction of three sexual offenders, sentencing them to different jail terms.
A statement by Zainab Santali, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry stated that the state High Court on Thursday sentenced a 34-year-old rapist, Ibrahim Yusuf to 1 years imprisonment.
Santali said the presiding judge, Justice Musa Ubale pronounced Yusuf guilty after the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, despite a not guilty plea by the defendant.
The judge also convicted Yusuf to another five years for gross indecency and for molesting a minor.
The statement further disclosed that the court also convicted one Dauda Mato, 35 who was charged with the offence of rape against a minor.
Mato who is from Kangire village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area was sentenced by the court to 21 years imprisonment. He denied the charge, but the prosecution led evidence in proof of the allegation.
In the same vein, Santali said Justice Ado Yusuf of High Court, Hadeija sentenced one 38-year-old Adamu Abdullahi, who was accused of raping a minor to life imprisonment.
In the case no JDU/20C/2018 Abdullahi was arraigned for raping a girl in Kirikasama Local Government Area at Tandanu village.
According to the statement, the prosecution called five witnesses in the case. Abdullahi pleaded not guilty.
