Central African Republic Forces Kill 3 CPC Rebels, Injure 2 In Bria
Three members of the CPC rebel group were killed on Thursday and two others injured in a violent clash with the Central African Republic national army.
Rebels of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) Thursday launched a ferocious attack on positions of the Central African Republic national army (FACA) at the entrance to Bria town in the Haute-Koto district.
HumAngle learned that while the FACA forces were still in control of their positions, fighting has continued and several deaths have been reported on both sides.
Local sources in Bria told HumAngle that the attack was carried out by a group of 10 heavily armed men identified as combatants of the rebel Front Populaire pour la Renaissance de Centrafrique (FPRC) movement which is a partner of the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC).
“Thanks to the intervention of the Rwandan soldiers who were fighting side-by-side with the FACA forces, the assailants were repelled and pushed back,” one of the sources said.
“The provisional casualty figures now stand at three rebels killed and two others wounded while on the side of the national army and their allies, one FACA soldier was killed and seven others wounded.”
This is the first attack on FACA positions since the CPC rebels were chased out of Bria. The CPC rebels are now camped in Aigbado situated 75 kilometres from Bria on the Ndele highway.
