Alleged Killing of Soldier by Wagner Mercenaries Sparks Tension in Central African Republic
Locals accused the mercenaries of being so brutal that any attempt at an insurrection because of the killing of the soldier could be suppressed with total brutality.
The alleged killing of a Central African Republic (CAR) soldier has sparked high tension among locals of the country’s Ippy town. The soldier succumbed to injuries inflicted on him by Russian mercenaries of the Wagner Security Group on Monday, Feb. 24.
Local sources in Ippy said the CAR soldier was on a drinking spree with friends when he was arrested by Russian mercenaries who accused him of being drunk and a threat to security.
“The soldier, who is yet to be positively identified, was copiously brutalised by the Wagner operatives. The violence against the soldier was so serious that he gave up the ghost,” a local source told HumAngle.
The atmosphere in Ippy right now is very tense and to reduce the tension in the town, the remains of the soldier were flown to Bangui town.
“The departure of the soldier’s corpse to Bangui has not however quelled down tempers in Ippy as hoped. The indignation of the local population remains palpable and there is the fear that the unexpected could happen,” another resident in Ippy revealed.

“This murder is not a simple incident. It is a criminal act, an affront to human dignity and a further stain on the macabre record of the Wagner mercenaries in the Central African Republic. How many more citizens of this country would be killed by the Russian mercenaries before the authorities end their barbaric atrocities in this country?” a political activist asked angrily.

The soldier was reportedly arrested and severely beaten by the mercenaries while on a drinking spree, leading to his death. Although his body has been sent to Bangui to ease tensions, the local population remains outraged and fearful of further violence.
The incident is viewed as a grave violation of human rights and has intensified criticism of the Wagner Group’s actions in the country, sparking calls for an end to their presence.
