4 Police Officers Killed In Fresh Attack In Southeast Nigeria

Four security operatives have been killed in Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria as armed groups continue rampage.

Four police officers have been killed by an unknown armed gang in a Tuesday, May 25, 2021 attack on Iwollo Oghe Police station in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria.

In a statement sent to HumAngle, Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer in Enugu State, confirmed the incidents which happened around 4 a.m WAT.

The attackers who came to the station in their numbers, opened fire on police officers on duty but were resisted. In the ensuing gun duel, several of the assailants escaped  with bullet injuries, the police spokesperson said.

“Unfortunately, four of the operatives, who sustained severe gunshot injuries, were later confirmed dead in the hospital, while parts of the station were set ablaze by the assailants.”

However, Mohammed Ndatsu, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, while on an on-the-spot assessment with members of his management team and Operational/Tactical Commanders to Iwollo Police Division appealed to law-abiding citizens of the state to promptly volunteer useful information that will assist the Command in the ongoing investigation.

He also called on them, especially operators of medical facilities in the state, to promptly report to the police any person(s) found  with gunshot injuries.

The Commissioner, while also  consoling family members and close friends of the slain police officers, has ordered the intensification of an already launched discreet investigation to fish out the assailants and their cohorts.
