Kano Sharia Court Sentences 70-Year-Old Rapist To Death By Stoning For Defilement

An Upper Shari’a court sitting at Kofar Kudu in Kano on Wednesday sentenced Mati Audu, a 70- year-old, to death by stoning after he was found guilty of defiling a 12-year-old girl.

Audu, a resident of Falsa in Tsanyawa Local Government Area confessed to committing the crime before the court.

The judge, Abdullahi Sani Sarki Yola gave the convict a chance at three different court sessions to withdraw his confession to save him from punishment according to Islamic law but he maintained his plea of guilt and willingness to face punishment.

On Monday, another Sharia court in Kano sentenced 22-year-old Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, a musician, to death by hanging for rendering a song considered to be blasphemous to Prophet Mohammed.
