HumAngle Media Privacy Policy for VR Application and Website
Introduction
HumAngle Media is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who interacts with our websites (including humanglemedia.com and related domains) and virtual reality (VR) experiences ( HumAngle VR Apps). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and how users can exercise their rights.
This policy applies to all users of our VR application and websites worldwide. It is designed to meet privacy laws in Nigeria, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States (including the California Consumer Privacy Act), and other jurisdictions. It is also drafted to comply with Meta’s Privacy Policy requirements for Quest and Horizon OS applications, including providing a clear statement of data collected, how it is used, and a straightforward process for requesting deletion.
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at [email protected].
Information We Collect
We collect information in several ways, depending on how you interact with our sites and VR experiences. We only collect the information necessary to provide our services, improve our products, comply with legal requirements, and meet Meta’s VR privacy rules.
1. Information You Provide to Us
- Profile and Contact Details: When you create an account, register for newsletters, or contact us, we collect information such as your name, email address, phone number, username, and any other details you provide.
- Content and Communications: We collect content you submit through our services, such as feedback, comments, uploads, or posts. We also collect messages you send to us, including support requests or survey responses.
- Payment Information: If you purchase a subscription, donate, or purchase digital goods through our VR app, we collect billing details such as payment method, transaction amount, and billing address. Payments are processed by third‑party providers, and we do not store full credit‑ or debit‑card numbers.
- Preferences and Settings: We record your preferences (e.g., language, accessibility settings) so that we can provide a personalised experience.
2. Information We Collect Automatically
- Device and System Data: We collect technical information about the devices you use, including type, model, operating system, browser, IP address, unique device identifiers, network information, system logs, crash reports and performance data.
- Usage and Analytics Data: We collect information about how you use our websites and VR app—pages viewed, features used, time spent in experiences, frequency of interaction, games played, purchases, VR events attended and other statistics.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to remember your preferences and gather usage statistics. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser or device settings.
- VR Activity and Sensor Data: To provide immersive experiences, the HumAngle VR App processes abstracted body‑motion, hand and controller tracking, eye tracking and natural facial expressions where supported. We collect positional information of the headset and controllers, hand and body tracking data, speed and orientation of movements, and interactions with the virtual environment. We also collect data such as the time, frequency and duration of your VR activities, gameplay statistics, and events you attend.
- Environmental and Camera Information: VR features may require mapping your room to ensure safety. We collect information about the dimensions of your physical environment (size of walls, surfaces, distances), camera and microphone data to orient you in VR, and audio information when you enable voice interactions. Raw video and audio are processed on your device; we only retain abstracted data necessary to provide the service. (Do we mention that we don’t store this data?)
3. Information from Third‑Party Sources
- Log‑In Services: If you sign in through a Meta account or another social‑login service, we obtain information from those services as permitted by their privacy policies.
- Analytics and Advertising Providers: We receive aggregated analytics and demographic information from analytics providers and advertisers. This helps us understand usage patterns and improve our products.
- Partners and Service Providers: We may receive information from service providers (e.g., payment processors) and partners who support our business.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information without parental consent, we will delete it.
How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to provide, improve and secure our services and to comply with legal requirements. We only process data for the purposes described in this policy and in accordance with Meta’s privacy rules. Our uses include:
- Providing Services: Delivering our VR experiences, websites, and mobile applications; enabling your interactions in VR; managing accounts; processing transactions; and providing customer support.
- Improving and Personalising Experiences: Analysing usage to understand how people use our VR app and websites; optimising performance; customising content; and developing new features and services.
- Communicating With You: Sending newsletters, product updates, marketing messages, security notifications, and administrative communications. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions or contacting us.
- Safety and Integrity: Protecting our users and services by detecting fraud, abuse, or unlawful activity; enforcing our Terms of Use and community guidelines; and preventing security incidents.
- Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Complying with applicable laws, regulations, court orders, or governmental requests; and exercising or defending legal claims.
- Research and Analytics: Conducting research to improve journalism, VR storytelling, and civic impact; using aggregated, de‑identified data for analytical purposes.
- Marketing: Displaying and measuring ads and promotional content, where permitted by law and your settings.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share information in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: We share information with vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as payment processing, data hosting, customer support, analytics, and marketing. These companies are required to use the data only as necessary to provide the services.
- Meta Platform Integration: When you access the HumAngle VR App through Meta’s Quest or Horizon OS, certain data (e.g., abstracted motion data, interactions, or device information) may be shared with Meta to enable platform services and ensure compliance with Meta’s policies.
- Other Users: Your actions in shared or social experiences may be visible to other participants (for example, your avatar’s presence in a virtual room or event). This includes your display name and avatar.
- Legal Requirements: We may share information to comply with applicable law or respond to lawful requests; to protect the rights, safety, or property of HumAngle, our users, or others; or to enforce agreements and policies.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred as part of the transaction. We will notify you of any material changes to data practices.
- Consent: We may share information with your consent or at your direction.
Legal Bases for Processing (for EU/UK Users)
If you reside in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Contractual Necessity: To provide the services you request, such as delivering our VR experiences, operating accounts, and processing transactions.
- Legitimate Interests: To operate and improve our business, maintain the safety and security of our services, and communicate with you about relevant content. We balance these interests with your privacy rights.
- Consent: For optional activities such as marketing communications or the use of non‑essential cookies.
- Legal Obligations: To comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
You have the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing prior to withdrawal.
Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy (for example, as long as you maintain an account with us) and to comply with legal obligations. Factors we consider when determining retention periods include: the nature of the data, the reason for collection, legal or regulatory requirements, dispute resolution, security needs, and the possibility of reactivation. When data is no longer needed, we delete or de‑identify it.
VR sensor data such as raw camera images, eye‑tracking or facial‑expression data are processed locally on the device and are not retained on our servers. Abstracted motion and interaction data may be stored to support gameplay, diagnostics, or analytics.
Your Rights and Choices
Regardless of where you live, you have important rights over your personal data. We recognise Meta’s requirement that deletion rights must apply to all users, not just specific regions.
Access and Rectification
You may request access to the personal data we hold about you and ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
Objection and Restriction
You may object to our processing of your data or request that we restrict processing under certain circumstances.
Data Portability
Where applicable, you may request that we provide your data in a structured, commonly used and machine‑readable format.
Marketing Preferences
You may opt out of marketing emails by following the unsubscribe link in any marketing message. You can also contact us using the details below.
Requesting Data Deletion
We provide a straightforward way for all users, regardless of region, to request deletion of their data. You may request deletion at any time, free of charge. To exercise your deletion rights, send an email to admin@humanglemedia.com with the subject line “Data Deletion Request.” We will verify your request and delete the data we hold about you unless retention is required by law or necessary for legitimate business purposes (for example, to resolve disputes or comply with regulatory obligations). We will not charge you a fee to process your deletion request.
If you signed in to our VR app via a Meta account, you may also need to delete data through Meta’s account settings or the Meta Quest mobile app.
International Transfers
HumAngle Media is based in Nigeria but our service providers may be located in other countries. We may transfer, store, and process your information outside of your country of residence, including in the United States and the European Union. When we transfer personal data across borders, we use approved transfer mechanisms such as Standard Contractual Clauses, where required by law.
Security
We employ administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information. These measures include encryption, access controls, secure servers, and regular security assessments. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security, and we encourage you to use strong passwords and keep your credentials confidential.
Children’s Privacy
Our services are intended for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us without parental consent, please contact us so we can remove the data. Parents or guardians may create a Meta account for their child under the “Parent Managed Account” program, in which case Meta’s children’s privacy disclosures apply.
Third‑Party Services and Links
Our websites and VR experiences may contain links to third‑party websites or integrate third‑party services (e.g., embedded videos, social media buttons, analytics tools). Your use of these services is governed by their own privacy policies, not this policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technologies, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will post the revised policy on our websites and update the “Last Updated” date. If required by law, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent. You should review this policy periodically.
