The Democratic Republic of Congo national army has killed 21 militia and recovered five weapons in the ongoing battles with combatants of the Coalition des Democrates Congolais – Coalition of Congolese Democrats – (CODECO).
The fighting which broke out at the Fataki commercial centre in the Djugu territory of Ituri province on Sunday, June 13, 2021 is still continuing on the national highway number 27, which is about 80 kilometres to the north of Bunia town.
According to a statement by Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, the spokesperson of DR Congo national military high command in Ituri, “wounded assailants are detained in a medical structure in Fataki for appropriate treatment before being transferred to Bunia to be tried.”
The military spokesperson did not give casualties on the side of the national army but it is reported that in earlier fighting on Saturday, June 12, 2021, a colonel of the army was killed in an ambush between the villages of Lita and Saliboko, one kilometre from the Kparnganza village in the Loga community group in the Walendu Tatsi sector.
