3 Humanitarian Workers Abducted In Goma, DR Congo
Kidnappings on the Goma-Sake and Goma-Kitchanga highways of DR Congo are becoming rampant.
Three humanitarian workers working with the Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) CONCERN, have been abducted by an armed gang on the Goma-Kitchanga highway in Masisi territory of North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to an eyewitness, they were abducted on Friday, Jan. 7, by a yet-to-be-identified armed gang, after blocking the road to Kitchanga.
“No shot was fired. There were armed masked men who came into the park and abducted the humanitarian workers. Their vehicle remains abandoned in Kahumba,” revealed another eyewitness.
According to the tribal chief of the Kamuronza group, Mwami Primo Bauma, “three agents of the humanitarian NGO, CONCERN, were kidnapped. There is a military post in the place that was sacked by the armed men. The army should reinforce its presence in the area.”
Kidnappings on the Goma-Sake and Goma-Kitchanga highways are becoming rampant in recent times.
The areas are inhabited mostly by farmers and these attacks have started to affect the supply of basic foodstuff to the residents of the zone.
These highways also facilitate the movement of humanitarian aid to the needy in Goma and Masisi where thousands of people are in need following armed violence by rebel groups.
