Armed Gang Kills 6 Police Officers In Enugu
Six police officers in Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria have been killed after an attack by an armed group.
Police officers numbering about six have been killed by an armed gang at police checkpoints in Obeagu-Amechi in Enugu South LGA, and Amagunze in Nkanu East LGA Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria.
Daniel Ndukwe Ekea, Police spokesperson in the state confirmed the incident to HumAngle but emphasised that the police did not yet have accurate details of the incident.
“Information surrounding the shooting incidents in the late hours of Tuesday, July 21, 2021, where police operatives were allegedly attacked by yet-to-be identified gunmen at checkpoints in Obeagu-Amechi in Enugu South Local Government Area and Amagunze in Nkanu East Local Government Area are still sketchy,” he said.
Ekea told HumAngle that the police had “commenced preliminary investigations,” and would communicate further information.
Police formations in Southeast Nigeria have come under attack in recent times.
In the past three months, the region has witnessed an alarming surge in cases of attacks, targeted at police formations.
The region witnessed a brazen attack on the police force, when suspected separatists freed more than 1,800 inmates at a correctional facility in Imo State, while attacking a police station on the same day.
