Anglophone Separatist Fighters Kill Nigerian Businesswoman In Cameroon
The body of the deceased is currently in the Kumba hospital mortuary while the wounded persons are receiving treatment.
Gunmen suspected to be english-speaking separatist fighters on Friday, July 2, 2021 killed a Nigerian businesswoman in Manyemen situated in Nguti subdivision, Meme division of the Southwest region of Cameroon.
The victim, Onyinyechi Ugwu Emmanuella was said to have left Douala that morning in the company of her two kids on her way to Nigeria.
Eyewitness accounts say the woman and her children were travelling in a Toyota Carina public transport car with tinted glasses.
According to Ojong Joseph Ojong, a journalist, the vehicle was said to have been in a convoy of vehicles that left Kumba that morning when they were ambushed by alleged Anglophone separatist fighters.
“Upon reversing to avoid stray bullets, the driver noticed that his vehicle had been hit by four bullets with one shattering the windscreen from the rear. It was then the driver noticed that the woman had been hit and killed,” Ojong revealed.
A young man whose identity was not immediately available and who was among three passengers travelling in the same vehicle also sustained injuries.
Alerted by the shooting, elements of the elite Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) based in Nguti rushed to the scene but arrived when the separatists had already disappeared into the bushes.
Ackpo Maximillian Efeanyi, the President of the Nigerian Union in Kumba, in a statement condemned the killing and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
The body of the late Onyinyechi Ugwu Emmanuella is currently in the Kumba hospital mortuary while the wounded persons are receiving treatment in the same health facility.
