About 50 persons have been reported missing in Bassa, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, Northcentral Nigeria after gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked the village on Thursday.
Sani Abubakar Kokki, Co-convener of Concerned Shiroro Youths, who disclosed this to HumAngle, said the incident happened at about 5 am.
Kokki, said the suspected terrorists were shooting sporadically as they attacked the community.
Some village members were reported fleeing into the forest to avoid being shot and whisked away by the gunmen.
“The number of people kidnapped is yet to be confirmed, but I know that they are much, to say the least,” he said.
“On Tuesday, some other communities in Bassa/ Kokki were attacked and a lot of losses were recorded there too.”
“Shiroro Local Government Area needs help from the government at all levels as bandits continue to waste our lives.
“It’s on a sad note that the people have continued to live at the mercy of the bandits.”
As of the time of filing this report, Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
Barely a week ago, suspected terrorists also invaded seven communities under Paikoro Local Government Area of the state leading to the kidnapping of 15 persons and killing of two local vigilante men.
In December last year, one Mubaraq of Notuko village was kidnapped by kidnappers.
Earlier in Jan. 2021, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulamid, the village head of Yakila under Rafi Local Government, was also kidnapped. His abductors demanded N15 million in which N4 million was paid, yet he wasn’t released.
